Painter Julia Stankova - Interview for ORTHODOX ARTS FESTIVAL 2022
After twelve years working as a mining engineer, she quit her job (1990) and dedicated all her time to painting.
Fortunately, this crucial turn in her personal life coincided with the political changes in Bulgaria. In the new social conditions, it became possible to develop her potentiality as an artist interpreting her favourite Biblical events.
Meanwhile the Faculty of Theology of Sofia University opened its door for women too and she was admitted to study there.
So, she obtained her second degree – Master in Theology (2000).
As an assistant in a private restoration studio in Sofia, she mastered the technique of icon painting.
She has been working as a self-employed artist since 2000.
She had fifty solo exhibitions in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, the Netherlands, France UK & Italy.
